Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Zipangu, a free MapleStory v117.2 (Big Bang era) private server. Zipangu runs low, community-friendly rates (2x EXP / 1x Meso / 1x Drop), has no pay-to-win, uses a custom RustHS anti-cheat, and is built around a fair, player-driven economy. Below are the questions players ask most, grouped by topic. Still stuck? Join our Discord and ask.
Getting Started
Is Zipangu free to play?
+
Yes, Zipangu is completely free. Download the client, make an account, and play; there is no purchase, subscription, or paywall to access any content.
How do I download and install Zipangu?
+
Grab the free client from our website, extract it to any folder, and run the launcher; the launcher keeps your files patched and up to date automatically. If Windows or your antivirus flags the download, whitelist the folder as described in the Technical section.
How do I make an account?
+
Register your account on the Zipangu website in under a minute, then log in with those same credentials inside the game client. One registration works for both the site and the game.
What version of MapleStory is this?
+
Zipangu is MapleStory v117.2, the Big Bang era of GMS. That means the revamped Big Bang maps, skills, and quest flow rather than the old pre-Big Bang or newer post-RED content.
I'm brand new to MapleStory, is that okay?
+
Absolutely. Zipangu is a great starting point: 2x EXP makes leveling comfortable, the community is beginner-friendly, and the Discord has guides and people happy to help you pick a first class.
Rates & Economy
What are the rates?
+
Zipangu runs 2x EXP, 1x Meso, and 1x Drop. It is a low-rate, progression-focused server, so leveling feels rewarding without trivializing the journey.
Is Zipangu pay-to-win?
+
No. There is nothing you can buy that gives you a combat, stat, or progression advantage; power comes from playing, not paying.
How does the economy work?
+
The economy is player-driven and built on 1x Meso and 1x Drop rates, so items hold real value and trading actually matters. Prices are set by players, not by an item shop selling gear.
Are there cash-shop or donation perks?
+
Any cosmetic or convenience options are strictly non-pay-to-win and never affect stats, drops, or combat power. Your gear and progress are always earned in-game.
Classes & Gameplay
What classes can I play?
+
You can play the Explorers (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief, Pirate), the Cygnus Knights, Phantom, Mercedes, Demon Slayer, Aran, Luminous, and Cannoneer. That covers every major archetype and playstyle from the Big Bang era.
Which class is best for beginners?
+
Explorer classes like Warrior and Bowman are forgiving and easy to learn, while Aran and Cannoneer have straightforward, high-impact combos. Pick whatever theme excites you most; with 2x EXP, re-rolling later is not a huge time sink.
What party quests (PQs) are available?
+
Zipangu features Kerning PQ, Ludibrium PQ, Orbis PQ, Monster Carnival, Pirate PQ, and Romeo & Juliet PQ. They are a fun, social way to earn EXP and rewards with other players.
What bosses can I fight?
+
Endgame bosses include Zakum, Horntail, Pink Bean, and the Black Mage as the ultimate challenge. Each is a step up in difficulty and gear check as you progress.
Is there endgame content once I hit max level?
+
Yes; boss runs, gear progression, the player economy, and PQs give you long-term goals beyond leveling. The Black Mage stands as the pinnacle challenge to work toward.
Account & Safety
Is Zipangu safe to download, or is it a virus?
+
The client is safe; antivirus programs sometimes flag private-server launchers and anti-cheat components as false positives because they inject into the game process. If you are ever unsure, download only from our official website and ask in Discord.
Does Zipangu have anti-cheat?
+
Yes. Zipangu uses RustHS, our custom anti-cheat, to detect and block hacks, bots, and exploits so the playing field stays fair. Server-side checks also validate damage, movement, and cooldowns so the client is never trusted blindly.
Will I get banned for something I didn't do?
+
We aim to ban cheaters, not legitimate players; RustHS targets actual hacking behavior. If you believe a ban was a mistake, open an appeal in our Discord and staff will review it.
Is my account information secure?
+
Use a unique password you don't reuse elsewhere, and never share your login. Zipangu staff will never ask for your password.
Technical & Compatibility
What are the system requirements?
+
Zipangu is a lightweight 2D game and runs on almost any modern Windows PC; you don't need a gaming rig. A stable internet connection and a few gigabytes of free disk space are enough.
Can I play on Mac?
+
Zipangu ships as a Windows client, but Mac users can play through CrossOver or Wine, which run the Windows client on macOS. It takes a little setup, and the Discord community can walk you through it.
Can I play on Linux, phone, or console?
+
There is no native Linux, mobile, or console client, but Linux players can use Wine much like the Mac setup. Zipangu is designed to be played on a Windows PC (or a Windows-emulation layer).
My antivirus deleted a game file or blocks the launcher, what do I do?
+
This is a common false positive with private-server anti-cheat. Add the Zipangu folder to your antivirus and Windows Defender exclusions, then re-run the launcher to restore any removed files.
The game won't launch or crashes, how do I get help?
+
First verify your antivirus isn't blocking files and that the launcher finished patching. If it still fails, post the error in our Discord support channel and staff or players will help you troubleshoot.
